The "Plain English" Summary We are parents too. We built Homeschool Lantern to help homeschoolers, not to sell data.
Your data is yours. The photos, reflections, and grades you upload belong to you.
No "Social" Feed. Student work is private. It is only visible to the Parent Account and the Student Account. It is never shared publicly.
Safety First. We use automated tools to scan images for inappropriate content to keep the platform safe for kids.
1. Information We Collect To provide the Homeschool Lantern service, we collect:
Account Information: Name and email address for the Parent (Administrator). If you choose to link a Student account, we collect a name (or nickname) and email for them too.
Student Work: Images of handwritten work, text reflections, and curriculum progress data.
Usage Data: Logs of when you log in and how you use the app (to help us fix bugs).
2. How We Use Your Data To Run the App: We use your data to display your schedule, track progress, and generate reports/portfolios for your homeschooling records.
Safety Screening: We use an automated system (NSFWJS) to scan uploaded images for nudity or inappropriate content. This happens instantly and without human intervention.
AI Features: If you use our AI features (e.g., generating curriculum or feedback), text data may be processed by our AI providers (like Google or OpenAI). Note: We do not allow these providers to use your personal data to train their models.
3. Who Can See Your Data? You (The Parent): You have full access to all data for all students in your family.
The Student: Can see their own schedule, work, and feedback.
Our Technical Team: We (Marty and the engineering team) may access your data only if necessary to fix a technical bug or if you explicitly ask for support.
We do NOT sell, trade, or rent your family's personal identification information to others.
4. Where Your Data Lives Database: Your data is stored securely in Supabase (an enterprise-grade database provider).
Security: We use industry-standard encryption (SSL) to protect your data as it travels from your device to our servers.
5. Children's Privacy Homeschool Lantern is designed for education. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. By creating a Student Profile for a child, you (the Parent) consent to the collection and use of their information as described in this policy.
6. Your Rights Access & Correction: You can view and edit your data at any time through the app.
Deletion: If you want to leave Homeschool Lantern, you can request full deletion of your account and all associated student data. We will wipe it from our servers.
